Well we came to the hospital this morning at about 9:30 not knowing if this was the real thing or if they were going to turn us away, but they admitted Megan and things were going well. Megan almost tried to do it without an epidural and was even able to walk around for a while a couple of times. At about 2:00 in the afternoon, she took a bath in the jacuzzi tub and that seemed to do the trick. While it helped her relax, she contractions really started to pick up and by the time she got back in the bed at about 2:45 she was screaming (kind of) for the epidural so there was a little bit of a mad dash to get an IV going so that the Anesthesiologist could do the epidural. Within about 15 minutes of getting back to the bed she was now fully dilated and was now in some serious pain from the contractions.
The Anesthesiologist was trying hard to get the epidural in, but Meg was shaking pretty good so he had to basically hit a moving target. Also during this time her water broke and the Anesthesiologist was thinking for a minute that he was going to get to catch this baby (it would have been his 3rd). They called the doctor and he arrived within a few minutes of getting the epidural and it worked pretty quickly and helped a lot!! We had a pretty crazy few minutes of thinking the baby was going to be here within seconds, but things calmed down and then Meg was able to really focus and within about 15 minutes of pushing we had a beautiful baby girl at about 3:30. She was 7 lbs 14 oz, and 21 inches long, very pink and VERY beautiful!! We are still undecided on a name but we will let you all know tomorrow.
It was very exciting and everything went very well considering we were having a major thunder and lightning storm with most of the city out of power. The Dr. said he was literally seeing patients by candlelight at his office. And we are soo grateful that I wasn't still in Louisville today because they have major flooding and there is a very slim chance that I could have gotten out of there this morning. Thanks to everyone who was been so helpful this summer while I have been gone and for the thoughts and prayers. I will post more pictures tomorrow!!
