Biker Babe

One of our friends gave us a bigger bike that their daughter had grown out of. Maggie absolutely loves it. She rides her bike out in our parking lot for hours, singing at the top of her lungs and chewing bubble gum. She is a pretty darn good bike rider, but she has had a few mishaps. One afternoon she was riding and she fell off her bike and slammed her head on the cement. She had a helmet on, but somehow it slid back on her head and left her forehead exposed. The very next day, Maggie was again riding her bike and Eva and I were outside too. I had my back to Maggie and suddenly I heard “WATCH OUT MOM!” I didn’t even have time to turn around before I was rear-ended by Maggie. It didn’t hurt me, but Maggie flew off and rammed her head on the sidewalk again, this time scraping up the other side of her forehead. She was pretty upset at me for not moving quick enough. Well, since then we have had a talk about how it is her responsibility to “watch out” when she is riding and we have gotten her a better helmet.

Yet another funny bike incident happened last Saturday when we went to the trail for a family bike ride. While Justin and I were unloading the bikes and hooking up the trailer, Maggie was riding her bike around a small turn-around in the parking lot. Eva ran after her and must have gotten in her way because seconds later Eva was on the ground crying and Maggie was speeding off on her bike. I hollered over to Maggie “Did you just run your sister over?” She immediately replied “NO!” and then paused for a second and then added “Well… not all the way.” So poor Eva was not was not run over “all the way” and therefore did not deserve her sister’s sympathy or her parent’s attention because they too busy laughing at their sassy 4 year old.
